Program Room A-B

The Shaker Heritage Society provides answers to questions heard regularly from their visitors--did the Shakers drink alcohol? Smoke tobacco? Keep pets? Leave the Shaker community and get married?

The answers to these common questions are complicated and often depend upon the year, the community, and the individual. Learn about the Shakers’ rules and how they were occasionally broken. Hear fascinating stories gleaned from Shaker journals and newspaper articles.

Stay after the presentation for coffee and refreshments while we discuss what we just learned.

The Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library provides a wide range of materials, programs, and services to the residents of Clifton Park and Halfmoon. We are a member of the Southern Adirondack Library System.
